Sustainia – Building the world of tomorrow

Sustainia – Building the world of tomorrow

Sustainia is a think tank and consultancy headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark. We identify readily available sustainability solutions across the world and demonstrate their potential impacts and benefits in our work with cities, companies, and communities.

By focusing on innovative breakthroughs, inspiring alternatives and new opportunities, Sustainia is shaping a new narrative of optimism and hope for a sustainable future that seeks to motivate instead of scaring people with gloom and doomsday scenarios.

With Sustainia, we are creating a vision of what a sustainable future could look like. Not a Utopia or distant dream. By building scenarios where available solutions, innovation and technologies are implemented at large scale, Sustainia shows the exciting sustainable societies we could live in.

Sharing economy – a sustainable economic ecosystem

Sharing economy – a sustainable economic ecosystem

The Sharing Economy is a socio-economic ecosystem built around the sharing of human, physical and intellectual resources.

It includes the shared creation, production, distribution, trade and consumption of goods and services by different people and organisations.

Whilst the Sharing Economy is currently in its infancy, known most notably as a series of services and start-ups which enable P2P exchanges through technology, this is only the beginning: in its entirety and potential it is a new and alternative socio-economic system which embeds sharing and collaboration at its heart – across all aspects of social and economic life.

The ‘Sharing’ in the Sharing Economy refers to the use and access of shared physical or human resources or assets, rather than the fact that there is no monetary exchange. A Sharing Economy enables different forms of value exchange and is a hybrid economy.

The Interlace – a community designed building

The Interlace – a community designed building

The Interlace is a large residential complex in Singapore consisting of a series of apartment blocks stacked diagonally across one another.

German architect Ole Scheeren designed the project.

Each of the apartment blocks is six stories high and they have been stacked to create a series of gardens and terraces at different levels.

Large multi-storey voids between blocks allow light and ventilation across the site, while eight large hexagonal courtyards break up the space at ground level.

These shared green spaces were also designed to create a sense of community amongst residents, which Chang (a partner at Buro Ole Scheeren) believes is one of the reasons the project was awarded the World Building of the Year 2015 accolade…

Burning Man Festival – A network of dreamers and doers

Burning Man Festival – A network of dreamers and doers

Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather to create Black Rock City in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having created unbelievable artistic experiences, and having left no trace whatsoever.

Our mission is to produce the annual event known as “Burning Man” and to guide, nurture and protect the more permanent community created by its culture. Our intention is to generate society that connects each individual to his or her creative powers, to participation in community, to the larger realm of civic life, and to the even greater world of nature that exists beyond society.

We believe that the experience of Burning Man can produce positive spiritual change in the world. To this end, it is equally important that we communicate with one another, with the citizens of Black Rock City and with the community of Burning Man wherever it may arise. Burning Man is radically inclusive, and its meaning is potentially accessible to anyone.

The touchstone of value in our culture will always be immediacy: experience before theory, moral relationships before politics, survival before services, roles before jobs, embodied ritual before symbolism, work before vested interest, participant support before sponsorship.

Finally, in order to accomplish these ends, Burning Man must endure as a self-supporting enterprise that is capable of sustaining the lives of those who dedicate themselves to its work. From this devotion spring those duties that we owe to one another. We will always burn the Man.

Gaia – the Netflix of conscious media

Gaia – the Netflix of conscious media

Stream online videos for your mind, body and soul.

Your intuition tells you there’s more to our story, something you’re not finding in your current paradigm. You can feel it in your bones. We are all connected, we’re part of something greater, and there is something more meaningful in this life that’s not present in our daily routines.

Your intuition is right.

Gaia is here with some new ideas and the world’s largest resource of conscious media to – well – empower the evolution of consciousness. That’s a rather massive vision, but truthfully, it’s why we do what we do at Gaia. We want to create a new reality, one of mindful people living in harmony with our environment and each other.

And with you, we can do it. Thank you for being here.

We promise to light the fire if you will carry the torch.

Visionary Art – transcending the physical world

Visionary Art – transcending the physical world

Visionary art is art that purports to transcend the physical world and portray a wider vision of awareness including spiritual or mystical themes, or is based in such experiences.

Visionary art often carries themes of spiritual, mystical or inner awareness. Despite this broad definition, there does seem to be emerging some definition to what constitutes the contemporary visionary art ‘scene’ and which artists can be considered especially influential. Symbolism, Surrealism and Psychedelic art are also direct precursors to contemporary visionary art. Contemporary visionary artists count Hieronymous Bosch, William Blake, Morris Graves (of the Pacific Northwest School of Visionary Art), Emil Bisttram, and Gustave Moreau amongst their antecedents.
